KEEPING AGRICULTURE CENTRAL TO THE COMMUNITY WE ALL KNOW AND LOVE

Our Purpose

Primary: Helping farmers keep their land and farms by buying their rights to develop.

Secondary: Purchasing land when the current farmer no longer wants to farm.

Also: We preserve open spaces, fresh and saltwater marshes, estuaries and adjoining uplands, groundwater recharging areas, land providing access to the ocean, land for bicycle paths and land for future public recreational facilities and use.

Protect Your Land

Your participation in protecting the unique, rural character of our community is what makes Little Compton such an extraordinary place to live, work, and play.

The LCACT accepts applications on an ongoing basis, and the process begins when a landowner decides to protect their property and chooses the appropriate type of preservation. We appreciate all applications and, to date, have conserved over 2,362 acres.

Trust Properties

Land conservation and preservation of open space benefits everyone in Little Compton.

Not all land conserved by LCACT is suitable for public use, but several parcels are and we’ve developed an online guide that includes a list, map, and images of LCACT properties that welcome public use for recreation.

For Farming

Supporting local farmers is an important part of LCACT’s mission and we currently lease approximately 163 acres of fee owned agricultural land to farmers. We want to ensure that we’re sustaining, promoting, and enhancing Little Compton’s agricultural viability today and for generations to come.
